Over 30 years ago, Willie Nelson abandoned the Nashville establishment and came to Austin, Texas to
develop his own brand of music. It made him an American icon. With inspiration like that, after we
purchased Ray Cook, we immediately began planning a move back to its Texas roots. Once removed from
the "me-too" community of golf club companies, we dedicated ourselves to taking a fresh look at how
putters have evolved - not always for the better - and we focused our energies on creating the best putting
instruments ever made.
The AUSTIN series of putters is the result of that dedication.
Backed by Ray Cook's legacy for quality putting innovations, we've issued a challenge to the
currently-accepted notion that a putter has to have a synthetic face insert to provide quality feel of impact. It
struck us as odd that golfers have turned to plastic in pursuit of the pure feel that is found in the
sought-after classic putters made 30, 40, even 50 years ago.
Our position is simple. If you build a putter right in the first place, you don't need some kind of artificial
face insert to hide its shortcomings. A bold statement, to say the least, but it takes only a few putts with
any AUSTIN putter to see what we mean.
With AUSTIN, we present a line of putters featuring classically styled head designs and revolutionary
technology in both the shaft and assembly methods. They all deliver pure and accurate feedback . . . both
during the stroke and at impact . . . so you can build a solid putting technique and improve your sense of
feel that is the key to scoring.

Including the shaft and grip in the presentation of a line of putters sets Ray Cook apart from all other
companies. To place it first in the discussion of AUSTIN technology makes a bold statement - The putter is
a precision instrument, and the shaft and grip are a major part of the formula.
Early on, Ray Cook engineers became determined to solve the deterioration of feel that has resulted from
today's lighter and stiffer putter shafts. The result was the StepFlare™(patent pending). Intentionally heavier
than other putter shafts, it properly balances the AUSTIN putters so they handle well in the stroke. The
resulting thicker walls provide the proper natural dampening of vibrations from impact, and just the right
amount of flex provides the feedback to the golfer's hands before impact, which is crucial to developing a
reliable sense of touch. Finally, the unique StepFlare feature allows the revolutionary assembly method
that defines the AUSTIN putters.
As for the grip, our goal was to ensure the optimum connection with your AUSTIN technology. Working with
Lamkin®, we created a size and shape that practically forces the grip to fit your hands naturally, while the
flat top surface places your thumbs in an exact relationship with the face of the putter. Finally, the old style
rubber compound, that is still a favorite among tour professionals, provides the most consistent
connection with the putter head and the most efficient surface for optimum feedback and control. It's
simple, but it works.

The development of the AUSTIN series of putters began with careful examination of the feel and sound of
impact, and many hours of discussion about how modern putters are inferior to the old classics in that
regard. The fact that almost all putters today feature a plastic face insert proves something has been lost
along the way. Certainly the modern golf balls, with their soft polymer covers, are not the problem they once
were.
While part of the formula was the shaft (which we solved with the "StepFlare"), a solid sensation of impact
also results from the way in which classic clubs were assembled, with club heads tension-fit to the shaft
and then pinned. This close metal-to-metal fit produced a much more unified feel. In contrast, modern club
designers so rely on epoxy that they create a space between the shaft and hosel, a place where
inconsistent vibrations can begin.
So we came up with this clever little device we dubbed "the Secret Weapon". This precisely-machined
fitting of soft brass is screwed into the top of the hosel and pinned. When installed under pressure into the
unique StepFlare shaft, the brass distorts and the shaft actually stretches to create a firm metal-to-metal
lockup, completely unifying the putting instrument. It allows us to build every AUSTIN putter with the same
precise fit of shaft to head as in the old hand-made classics.

Other companies would have you believe the putter head is the only thing that matters. You've seen now
how the AUSTIN Series is very different, but we do take particular pride in the simply beauty and balance of
each of the AUSTIN putters. With these three simple designs (plus the new M1-A mallet), any golfer can
find a head style that meets his personal preference. All have traditional styling and soft lines, with carefully
blended corners and edges. Each is cast in mild 303 stainless steel, and finished to perfection. Faces are
"micro-polished" to perfect flatness, and lofts, lies and weights are all carefully controlled. Each one is a
work of art, as a putter should be.
A classic blade design, and still one of the most popular styles in history. The AUSTIN 1 features lines that
even the originals would be proud to have, and is the sure choice of purists and those with more of a
"swinging" type of stroke.
A heel/toe weighted putter with clean and simple lines. The softly styled cavity and innovative face thickness
produce a feel that is unmatched. A slightly offset hosel places the hands slightly ahead and the balance
provides optimum feedback in the stroke.
This head design blends classic styling with a longer slant hosel that provides
face-balance which so many golfers now prefer. It also has the unique face
cross-section that helps provide that unmatched "AUSTIN" feel.
